2 Wheel IS Better than One

Most archeologists agree that the wheel was probably first invented in Asia about
8,000 BC and the first wheel actually discovered was in Mesopatamia about 3,500 BC.
The wheel did go through various stages of development to get where it is today.
But since then the wheel hasn't actually been re-invented, but rather the ways in
which it has been used.

The first two wheeled "vehicles" included the cart and the Chariot. The most common uses for
2-wheeled transportation today is:

*** the bicycle believed to have been invented between 1816 and 1861 and is used by adults and
children alike for everything from getting to school to winning the Olympics.

***The moped a cross between a bicycle and a motorcycle, I was suprised to discover, actually
originated in very funky style back in 1886. Not long after the bicycle itself was created. It has made
several comebacks, the lastest being in 1997, when nearly 12 million were produced world-wide.

***the Kick or Electric Scooter originated in a handmade version in Urban areas in the early 1900's.
Usually made of a wooden board with roller skate wheels attached to the bottom and some type of
steering mechanism. Wim Ouboter of Switzerland created a sleeker, narrower folding version of the
kick scooter in the late 1990's. The JDBug (or Razor) version become wildly popular in the US in 1999.
The 2 wheel Electric Scooter like the motorcycle has become encreasingly popular in part due to the
rising cost of gasoline.

***the Motorcycle like the bicycle and Moped was invented about 1885. The "steam engine" version
was designed by Howard Sylvester Roper. Nicholos Otto created his "otto" cycle and gas engine
about 1885. Bill Harley and Arthur Walter Davidson started their Harley/Davidson Company in a
little wooden barn where they built their first Motorcycle meant for racing in the early 1900's.

***Heely's is another 2 wheel method of getting around that is especially popular with kids. Heelys are
tennis shoes with a Wheel in the heel of each shoe. The wheels can be retracted for regular walking or
out for "free Wheeling."

Well that's all for now catch me tomorrow for, "Wheels, Wheels and Yet MORE Wheels."
